The distinguishing feature of a luxury car is that it sacrifices most practical concerns such as passenger space and cargo capacity etc for the sake of style. It is interesting to note here that there is no set definition of what constitutes a luxury motor car. Several subjective criteria (such as price, design, comfort, and prestige) are used to determine which vehicles are and are not included in the luxury vehicles market segment. As evident from the name, luxury cars are more comfortable and stylish than their conventional counterparts. Leather seats and wooden interiors are common features of most luxury sports cars. Another important point to note here is that ‘luxury’ in even the top luxury cars is only the perception of customers. This is evident from the fact that a number of car manufacturers are now producing luxury vehicles by making slight modifications (such as product differentiation, up market advertising, product placement etc) to their conventional models. The boundary lines of luxury cars’ market segment are becoming increasingly blurred because of the introduction of a large number of moderately expensive vehicles that include most or all features of a luxury car.
